I've been doing vast amounts of reading on Rene Descartes and Ayn Rand... Very interesting. Comparing and contrasting the Subjectivist and Objectivist mindsets for the WHOISMARLO album.
At first, I was going to primarily concentrate on Rands view, however, as NK pointed out: it is not possible to be a Religious Objectivist. According to Rand's view, this is indeed true. When I read her fiction, however, I guess I initially perceived "Objectivism" in a different light. At the moment, I am not exactly sure how to define it... Rather than stating, that each human being has a Purpose (or Objective) and that they spend their lives actualizing that Purpose (or Objective) into reality.
Now, I see that Purpose as God-Given. So... since Rand is an Atheist, I have a lot of research to do in defending my point. NK suggest Descartes as a logical start. So far, again, very interesting stuff. I see bounds of spirituality in Rand's work... and I really believe that is why it hits home for so many people.
She does take her views to pretty far extremes, though... Have you read that Lexicon? YIKES.
In the end, of course, the album will become my interpretation of Rands work; how it effected my Life. In essence, this is really all any Artist can ever do.
In other news: Day 6 without Facebook. This was actually much easier than I thought...
